You hit the nail on the head w/r/t/ a distinct lack of character building before the inevitable deaths. Another movie which nails it is Norway's Dead Snow. All of the characters are likeable in one way or another, and it's really tragic to see these (finally) likable horror characters meet their unfortunate ends.6ft. I suppose it helped that William Peter Blatty wrote and directed the film based on his own novel. He had a rock solid idea of how important their friendship was to the story and did not downplay it to make room for more horror.

A flawed film, to be sure, but also greatly underrated.CRYPTORAMAhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05088430220806733260noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8474941883581221669.post-45739331384232996392011-06-02T11:04:00.459-07:002011-06-02T11:04:00.459-07:00Great post, very true. I'd say families provide greater horror/emotion without too much great writing, The Shining (father mother son), Jeepers Creepers (brother sister), Chucky (mother son). As far as friendships, it's not straight horror but Alien has some good comradery. It makes me wonder about the "collection of strangers brought to a haunted house" motif getting reiterated, no wonder they always betray each other.Dhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06992603660551488116noreply@blogger.com
